World Recycling Day: How Sonnenglas® Makes a Difference

On World Recycling Day, we celebrate the importance of recycling in protecting our environment and conserving our natural resources. In a world increasingly characterised by waste, recycling plays a crucial role in reducing waste and minimising pollution. As proud representatives of a sustainable and environmentally friendly brand, we at Sonnenglas® would like to take this day as an opportunity to share how we are doing our bit.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

For us, sustainability is at the centre of everything we do. Our products are therefore designed to do more than just bringing light into the lives of our customers. So how do we contribute to recycling?

#### 1. Reusability by Design

The Sonnenglas® is not just a solar lantern - it is a modular system designed for sustainability and longevity. Thanks to its innovative design, 5 out of 5 parts that make up the Sonnenglas® can be replaced in the event of a defect. Whether magnet, bracket or solar panel, you will find all the spare parts you need for a repair and thus protect your wallet and our environment at the same time.

#### 2. Use of Glass

The centrepiece of Sonnenglas® is, as the name suggests, a glass jar. We made a conscious decision to use glass instead of plastic because it is 100% recyclable without losing its purity or quality.

#### 3. Solar Technology

We believe that a true recycling mentality should start before the disposal of products. For this reason, every Sonnenglas® is equipped with a solar module that converts sunlight directly into energy. This allows us to reduce the need for conventional energy sources. By focussing on the use of renewable energy from the outset, we are actively helping to promote a circular system that prioritises the use and integration of renewable energy in our everyday lives.

#### 4. Packaging

Our cardboard packaging is designed to be minimalist and recyclable. We consciously avoid unnecessary packaging material and use recycled or recyclable materials to minimise our environmental footprint.

#### 5. Repurpose Project

We offer a [take-back service](/upgrade "Upgrade & Repurpose") for your obsolete solar modules to ensure that they are not wrongly disposed of. Instead, we give the old modules a second life by reusing them in our Light Tree, a social art and culture project in South Africa. In this way, we want to show our commitment to avoiding electronic waste and promoting a circular economy. If an old module is no longer suitable for upcycling, we have it professionally recycled.
