New light for your favourite jar: Upgrade programme
The broad-shouldered sister among the small Light Carafes: 750 millilitres, a good eleven centimetres across, a steady stand. The SOMO Mini sits on top — and it becomes a lamp.
- Holds 750 millilitres — the widest shape in the Light Carafe family
- Made for the SOMO Mini: 70 lumens, warm white, dimmable (sold separately)
- 21 centimetres tall, eleven centimetres across, cork stopper
- Fairly made — part of the Sonnenglas project in Johannesburg
The light in the lid: SOMO
It sits inside. It comes out. It fits every Sonnenglas.
Solar cells, battery and light in one module: the SOMO charges in the sun by day and glows in your Light Carafe at night. Take it out and use it on its own – as a flashlight, in another Sonnenglas or under the Lightshade.
SOMO has been around since 2022 – and it also fits every older Sonnenglas, right back to the first one from 2013. Your jar stays; only the light gets new.

The story
The M2 is the Light Carafe with broad shoulders: 750 millilitres like the M1, but a good eleven centimetres across — the widest shape in the family. That is exactly why we like it outdoors, on the picnic blanket, the balcony table, the windowsill facing the yard. By day the SOMO Mini gathers sun on top; by night it lays 70 lumens of warm light into the glass, dimmable down to bedtime. The cork stopper keeps the water fresh. And behind every Light Carafe stands the same story: a solar project from Johannesburg carrying fair jobs.

Frequently asked questions
The M2 comes on its own or as a set including the SOMO Mini. A module from your Sun Jar Mini fits as well.
The belly is its shape: a good eleven centimetres across at 750 millilitres. It stands calm and steady on uneven tables and picnic blankets.
