The story
Beadwork is an old language in South Africa: colours and patterns tell where someone comes from and what is being celebrated. For the Artisan Edition Mixed Beads, artisans at Victoria Yards thread mixed colourful beads by hand — and in a region where more than 60 percent of young people are out of work, every one of these lanterns is a piece of income first. Underneath, it stays the lantern we have built since 2013: one litre of mouth-blown recycled glass, the SOMO in the lid, charged by sun or USB-C, up to 28 hours of warm light, weatherproof to IP65. Because the beads are mixed and set by hand, every piece turns out differently — your lantern exists exactly once.
