The story
Some fabrics are archives. Shweshwe is one of them: in South Africa it has been sewn into wedding dresses, Sunday skirts and heirlooms for generations — see it, and you think of someone. The Heritage edition brings that memory onto the Sun Jar Classic. It is made by hand in our Fair Trade factory at Victoria Yards, Johannesburg — where sunlight has been turned into work since 2013, in an area with over 60 percent youth unemployment. At night, when the SOMO glows through the fabric, the cover does what heirlooms do: it turns an object into a story.
