New light for your favourite jar: Upgrade programme
The second one-litre shape of the Light Carafe — same neck, same idea, its own character. It pours water through dinner, then carries the SOMO Classic and lights the table to the end.
- Holds one litre — the second of two Classic shapes
- Made for the SOMO Classic: warm white, dimmable (sold separately)
- 27 centimetres tall, with a cork stopper
- Fairly made — part of the Sonnenglas project in Johannesburg
The light in the lid: SOMO
It sits inside. It comes out. It fits every Sonnenglas.
Solar cells, battery and light in one module: the SOMO charges in the sun by day and glows in your Light Carafe at night. Take it out and use it on its own – as a flashlight, in another Sonnenglas or under the Lightshade.
SOMO has been around since 2022 – and it also fits every older Sonnenglas, right back to the first one from 2013. Your jar stays; only the light gets new.

The story
Two Light Carafes, one litre, two characters: the C2 is the sister of the C1 — the same height, the same neck for the SOMO Classic, but its own silhouette and, at around 460 grams, a little more glass in the hand. We like them in pairs on long tables: water while people eat, light once people talk. The cork stopper keeps it sealed, the SOMO charges at the window by day and dims down to candle-calm at night. The Light Carafe is fairly made — part of the Sonnenglas project that has created steady jobs in Johannesburg.

Frequently asked questions
Both hold one litre and take the same SOMO Classic. It comes down to shape alone — picture which one stands on your table.
The C2 comes on its own or as a set including the SOMO Classic. A SOMO from your Sun Jar Classic fits just as well.
