Two hands in a knit sweater hold a glowing SOMO solar light, warm evening light

Sonnenglas Upgrade programme

New light for your favourite jar

Why it works

One glass, light again and again

Sun Jar, Light Carafe, Adventure Mount: the glass and the mount stay with you. The light lives in the SOMO, and the SOMO is swappable.

When your module fades one day or you want the new generation, you only swap the SOMO. That saves you money and all of us waste. The generation 6 SOMO fits every current Sun Jar, Light Carafe and Adventure Mount, each in the matching size.

Like a deposit: your old SOMO has a value, whatever its condition. We reward it with R50 off, because we take responsibility for our products.

How it works

Three steps to new light

  1. Enter your number

The serial number of your module (QR code) or an old order number from us.

  2. Get your R50 voucher

The code appears right away, one voucher per order.

  3. Order a new SOMO

Redeem the code in your cart. You may send us your old module, but you don't have to.

From the first version to today

Recognise your module? Every one counts

This is how the light in the lid has changed, from the first version to SOMO Gen 6. Whichever module you have: it has a value.

SOMO, as it is called today, has been around since 2022. And it also fits the very first Sonnenglas jars from 2013: your jar stays, only the light gets new. We are proud of that, because we make things to keep. Since 2013 we have made the light in the lid more efficient and brighter and kept it simple. It does not work the other way round: an old module does not fit a new jar.

  • Up to 5 times brighter than before
  • Up to 100 hours of light on a full charge
  • Charge level indicator in the solar panel
  • USB-C charging
  • Works directly on the glass, no magnetic switch
  • Integrated bracket for hanging
